Is a New Right Back required ?
With the emergence of Ngakia and Johnson in our first team squad as well as of having Fredericks, should we still be looking in the summer for another one ?

Only if someone freakish is available.
Left back is more necessary.

Definitely need a left back

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
The need to invest in a decent right back and left back cannot be overstated.

If you require evidence for this assertion please see West Ham United 1995-2020

No.

But we clearly need a left back.

Are you a bit slow?

Perfectly good question for debate. First insult happens in 4 posts

Left back and central midfielder should be this summer's target. Wouldn't mind us trading in Anderson and Lanzini too

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
I agree with Mr Anon here. Left back and central midfield must be the priorty.

Sell Masuaku to Real Madrid, and Lanzini to whoever to fund it those.

Good work on calling out Pickled as well.

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
Yes we need a right back. Fred is made of glass.

Can't rely on one kid for a whole season

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
I think everyone is getting a bit over excited about Ngakia. He had some defensive lapses at the weekend that Masuaku would've been crucified for, and he escaped only because Bowen was superbly covering for him.

He's obviously young and can improve, but we should definitely be looking at signing better quality if we stay up.

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
Fredricks Johnson and Ngakia should be good enough

Selling Masauku and getting a LB as others have said should be priority

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
Yes

Both Johnson and Fredericks have struggled with injuries recently

Send one of the kids on loan next season

But how the kids do for the rest of season would determine what kind we need to buy.

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
I think that in the full back positions you can get away with young pacy players who are enthusiastic and willing to learn...

IMHO it's the central positions where you priotise your money...if your team doesn't have that rod of steel holding the spine together then you are just masquerading as a team who is trying to be competitive.

Replacing Soucek already? or expecting Rice to leave

I agree we need more strength in depth there tho, but if Rice stays I would expect him and Soucek to be our midfield next season

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
I'm expecting Rice to leave. I think we'll get an offer over the summer that will be too good to refuse, but even if he stays, I still think we should be getting someone else in.

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
Really depends on the budget available and if the rb is genuinely an improvement.

If we have a lack of funds which is possible id much rather prioritise left back, a striker and a replacement cm.

Be good to see other youth players such as Silva or Cullen a chance to come off the bench but our position in the table does not allow us that luxury yet.

We’ve needed a right back since Lucas Neill.

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
If we get the midfield balance right then the defense is less of an issue. If the youngsters are good enough then Zabaleta retires and one of them takes the opportunity.

The youngsters need games, to get stronger and up to speed with the game. The Premier League is unforgiving and a lapse in concentration or mistake often leads to a goal. Ngakia has done well since he came in but like most young players he will make mistakes and we need to have a strong setup to cover for that and let them gain experience.

If we stay up then I would look at the midfield more and how we incorporate the creativity and flair as well as remaining hard to break down. We have a lot of players who when back from injury are sitting on big money. Manager needs to get the right fit and cover for the way he wants them to play.
I think we will be very lucky if Rice is still here next season so that is an area that might become a priority.

Fair play - could do with a options on either side of defence.

Not sure that's open to debate mind.

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
I’d like to see Ngakia and Johnson given a go at right back
Agree that we need to look at a left back but two central midfielders of quality are needed to replace Rice and for Noble to drop down to ‘squad player’.
Wouldn’t be too upset if Lanzini and Anderson went and the cash was invested in young hungry types.
Balbuena seems to have gone off the boil but we need 3 centre halves plus an up and coming one. There has been talk of the young bloke at Gillingham who could be possible 4th choice there

First thing is to find out what division we are in though.

Re: Is a New Right Back required ?
Johnson can play left back as we saw against City last year.

He can also play center back.
A brave Moyes will put him on the bench against Arsenal.
We don't need Zab and Masuaku both on the bench, having Johnson there will give us better options.
